Castle Dairies butter was already a big name in Wales, but it was time for them to disrupt the UK butter market with a new brand to make a song and dance about. Although they’d be fresh on the scene, they were no novices, with decades of expertise, passion and creativity up their sleeves.  My job was to distil this character into their new brand. I captured their quirkiness with a fresh new name and eccentric jaunty language that was irresistibly irreverent.

My brand story evolved with the design, keeping in mind there were several SKUs in the range and giving them room to grow with new flavours and innovations.

The concept of butter HQ back in Caerphilly where all their brilliant ideas came from allowed me to tell an engaging story online and on pack, with quirky ‘discoverables’ dotted on foils and tubs.

All the while I also had to consider the original Castle Dairies brand, which due to its popularity was remaining in Wales. I developed a separate story and tone of voice for Castle Dairies which had synergy with The Butterworks, so that it sounded part of the family.
